Tritonia crispa

Tritonia crispa, now included within Tritonia undulata, is a cormous Iridaceae widespread across the western Cape, growing on rocky sandstone slopes in fynbos. Reaching 18 to 35 cm tall, it bears 5 to 8 sheathing, sword-shaped leaves with the characteristic undulate, crisped margins. The dense flower spike opens from October to December: the perianth, over 40 mm long, is cream marked with red, pinkish outside. The conical corm, 10 to 30 mm across, is wrapped in fine fibres. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
