Watsonia humilis

Endemic to the southwestern Cape, Watsonia humilis grows on sandstone or granite flats. This small cormous Iridaceae, 15 to 40 cm tall, bears pink to white flowers in late spring. Although highly threatened in the wild, it is readily cultivated under suitable conditions and is grown to a limited extent by specialist bulb growers as a container or rock garden plant. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position, with a dry summer dormancy, like most cormous Cape Iridaceae.
