Watsonia stenosiphon

Endemic to the Western Cape, Watsonia stenosiphon is part of the fynbos vegetation and grows on coarse, rocky sandstone soils. This cormous Iridaceae reaches 20 to 45 cm tall; its name, from the Greek stenos (narrow) and siphon (tube), refers to the long, slender perianth tube of its salmon-orange, occasionally mauve, flowers, often marked with a darker line on the lower midline of the three lower tepals. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position, typical of fynbos conditions.
