Calydorea amabilis

Native to Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil, Calydorea amabilis grows in an unusual habitat for a bulbous Iridaceae: along riverbanks, sometimes directly in water, in slightly acid, humus-rich soil, in part shade. It differs from other species in the genus by its inner tepals, smaller than the outer ones, geniculate and recurved, bearing scattered lipid trichomes, and by anthers fused to the style branches. The species was described by Goldblatt and Henrich in 1991, during the revision that merged several related genera into Calydorea.
