Dietes flavidus

Endemic to KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape, also occurring in Eswatini and Mozambique, Dietes flavida grows on forest margins and lightly shaded, rocky sites. This evergreen rhizomatous Iridaceae forms clumps 50 to 70 cm tall, with glaucous, narrowly lanceolate leaves arranged in a fan. The gold- to pale-yellow flowers bear large orange to brown blotches at the centre of each of the six tepals; the style branches are usually creamy yellow, occasionally lightly flushed with purple. The smooth, ovoid capsules are pendent. It is grown in well-drained soil, in part shade or full sun.
