Nivenia corymbosa

Confined to a small area of the western Cape mountains, from south of Bain's Kloof to the Tulbagh Waterfall, Nivenia corymbosa is a shrublet 0.5 to 2 m tall, with erect to inclined stems, several arising from the base, the older ones reaching 30 mm in diameter. The narrow, lanceolate, sword-shaped leaves measure 10 to 20 cm. The inflorescence, a large terminal corymb, bears up to 120 pale to deep blue flowers from January to March, a remarkable display for an Iridaceae. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position, typical of mountain fynbos.
