The correct name for this orchid is Oncidium tigrinum, an iconic epiphytic species from Mexico, found in the states of Jalisco and Michoacán on Pacific-facing slopes between 1600 and 2500 m elevation. Its pseudobulbs, up to 10 cm tall, bear two or three leaves reaching 40 cm. From autumn into winter it produces several highly fragrant flowers about 7.5 cm across, with sepals and petals yellow barred with brown and a larger, bright yellow lip. It is an important species in the breeding of intergeneric hybrids. It requires cool to intermediate growing conditions, moderate to bright light, and a well-drained medium watered just before drying out.
