Dendrobium hancocky

Native to Yunnan and Sichuan in southern China, Dendrobium hancockii grows epiphytically on tree trunks and rocks in forests or along valleys, between 200 and 2150 m elevation. Nicknamed the bamboo orchid for its slender, branching stems bearing narrow, blade-like leaves, the species produces small, golden-yellow, honey-scented flowers about 4 cm wide in spring. Used in traditional Chinese medicine, it requires warm to cool growing conditions, bright light, high humidity, and a drier winter rest to encourage flowering.
