Cymbidium traceyanum

Native to China, Thailand and Myanmar, Cymbidium traceyanum (often spelled tracyanum) grows as an epiphyte or lithophyte on tree trunks, forks and damp rocks between 1200 and 1900 m elevation. Its long, arching, distinctly keeled leaves can reach 80 cm. In autumn and early winter, an arching spike nearly a metre long bears 10 to 20 large, strongly fragrant flowers, 10 to 15 cm across, with olive-green sepals and petals veined bronze and a strongly wavy, cream to white lip striped red. This robust species tolerates near-freezing temperatures.
