Bifren harrisoniae

Native to coastal Brazil, Bifrenaria harrisoniae grows as an epiphyte, occasionally a lithophyte, on nearly vertical rock cliffs exposed to sun and wind, between 200 and 800 m elevation. Its strongly angled, four-sided pseudobulbs bear a single plicate leaf. In spring, a short 5 cm inflorescence bears one to two fleshy flowers, white to yellowish or pale green, with a large, hairy, three-lobed lip in deep wine-purple to magenta veined darker, releasing a sweet scent most noticeable in late afternoon. It requires warm, bright growing conditions and a well-drained epiphytic mix.
