Merendera pyrenaica

Merendera pyrenaica, now often included within Colchicum montanum, is a cormous Colchicaceae native to the Iberian Peninsula and the southern slopes of the Pyrenees. This small geophyte grows in mountain meadows and grassland. The narrow, linear leaves appear with or shortly after the flowers. Flowering occurs in late summer and autumn, producing solitary, star-shaped flowers, pink to violet, with tepals free to the base, distinguishing it from the closely related genus Colchicum. It requires well-drained soil, a sunny position and a dry summer dormancy, the corm remaining dormant through the hot months.
