Aloes brevifolia

Endemic to South Africa's Western Cape (the Caledon and Bredasdorp districts, extending to Swellendam and Cape Agulhas), Aloe brevifolia is a small, stemless succulent Asphodelaceae forming dense clumps of compact rosettes. The triangular, greyish-blue leaves bear fine white teeth along their margins. Flowering occurs in late spring, around November in its native range, producing upright clusters of slightly curved, tubular flowers, red and occasionally yellow. Vulnerable in the wild due to habitat loss and collecting, it is grown in very free-draining, gritty soil, in full sun, with reduced watering in winter.
