Iris popovii

Iris popovii is a Juno iris endemic to a restricted area of the Pamir range in Central Asia, growing at around 2400 m elevation and remaining rare in the wild. It develops a well-formed bulb with papery tunics about 1.5 cm across, and leaves that are nearly fully expanded by flowering time. Each stem bears two to four pale mauve to azure-blue flowers, the falls marked with a bright orange crest resembling a cockscomb and tipped with a splash of red. It requires well-drained soil, a sunny position, and the dry summer dormancy typical of high-mountain Juno irises.
