Iris aucheri

Iris aucheri, named in honour of the botanist-collector Aucher-Éloy, is a Juno iris native to south-central and southeastern Turkey, extending into Jordan, Syria, Iraq and western Iran. A bulbous geophyte up to 25 cm tall, it bears crowded lance-shaped leaves and produces, from late winter into early spring, several flowers per stem, white, pale blue or dark blue depending on the population, marked with a yellow patch on the drooping falls and carrying a violet-like scent. It requires well-drained soil, a sunny position and a dry summer dormancy.
