Iris warleyensis

Native to Central Asia, particularly Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, Iris warleyensis is a bulbous iris of the Juno group (section Scorpiris). Its long, arching, mid-green leaves surround a slender stem 20 to 45 cm tall. In spring it produces up to five flowers, 5 to 7 cm across, ranging from pale violet to deep purple-blue. Like other Juno irises, it favours rich, perfectly drained soil and a sunny position, and requires a dry summer dormancy, since the bulb cannot tolerate stagnant moisture outside the growing season.
