Iris narbuti

Native to the Chulbair Mountains of Uzbekistan, Iris narbutii (sometimes spelled narbuti) is a bulbous iris of the Juno group (subgenus Scorpiris). Its brown, papery-tunicked bulb produces dark green leaves and a short stem bearing spring flowers ranging from greenish-yellow to pale violet. A threatened species, close to extinction in the wild, it grows on dry rocky slopes. In cultivation it requires poor, perfectly drained soil and a sunny position, whether in a pot or in open ground, along with a strictly dry summer dormancy to preserve the bulb.
