Iris masia

Found in the Middle East and southern Turkey, Iris masia is a rhizomatous iris of the series Syriacae (subgenus Limniris), often described as a darker-coloured form of Iris grant-duffii. Its narrow, ribbon-like leaves can reach 45 cm long; the unbranched stem, 15 to 70 cm tall, bears a single flower in shades of purple to violet-blue in late spring, which can last up to a month. It grows in deep soils, wet in winter and dry in summer, and requires a sunny position and well-drained soil in cultivation.
