Iris sprengeri

Native to the mountain slopes of Anatolia, Turkey, Iris sprengeri is a dwarf perennial of the Oncocyclus section, reaching only 6 to 15 cm in height. Unlike most other species in this section, it has a slender rhizome bearing long creeping stolons, forming spreading colonies. Its 4 to 5 leaves are narrow and falcate. In spring it bears a single large flower, 10 to 12 cm across, white to cream, veined with purple-red to reddish-brown, with a golden-yellow beard and a dark purple-brown signal patch. It requires well-drained soil, full sun, and a dry summer dormancy period.
