Romulea syringodeoflora

Endemic to the southern Roggeveld Plateau in the Northern Cape of South Africa, Romulea syringodeoflora is an acaulescent, cormous geophyte with no visible above-ground stem. It produces pink, salver-shaped, scentless flowers with a narrow, elongated perianth tube 18 to 25 mm long, from which the brown-anthered stamens project prominently. This floral structure is adapted to pollination by a long-proboscid fly of the genus Prosoeca. It grows in well-drained soil under full sun, and becomes dormant during the dry summer characteristic of its South African habitat.
