Romulea gaditana

Romulea gaditana, now generally treated as Romulea ramiflora subsp. gaditana, is native to southern Spain, notably the Murcia region. This small geophyte, with a globose corm wrapped in a tough reddish-brown tunic, produces several narrow, erect, almost cylindrical leaves. It bears a violet-lilac flower, veined in darker shades, with a yellow throat, the reverse of the tepals being green. It grows in sandy or rocky places along the Mediterranean coast, in well-drained soil and full sun, becoming dormant during the dry summer.
