Cybistetes longifolia

Now often reclassified as Ammocharis longifolia, Cybistetes longifolia is a winter-growing bulbous plant native to the sandy and gravelly flats of the northwestern and southwestern Cape in South Africa, extending into Namibia. The large bulb, 10 to 15 cm across, bears 9 to 14 leaves lying flat on the ground, appearing in May and drying off by October. It is then, in autumn, that the plant flowers close to the ground, producing an inflorescence of 13 to 90 fragrant, tubular flowers, ivory to deep pink, pollinated at night by moths. It requires well-drained sandy soil, full sun, and dry summer dormancy.
