Geissorhiza eurystigma

Endemic to the Cape Floral Region of South Africa, Geissorhiza eurystigma is confined to a narrow coastal strip of the Western Cape around Darling and Mamre, on granite-derived renosterveld soils. It is a small plant with a globose corm, 8 to 15 cm tall, bearing 3 conspicuously ribbed leaves. In spring it produces deep purple flowers with a red centre, sometimes outlined in lighter purple darkening towards the tepal tips. Classified as Endangered due to conversion of its habitat to farmland, it requires well-drained soil, full sun, and a dry summer dormancy.
