Satyrium sp?

This species could not be reliably identified, so the following describes the genus Satyrium. Comprising around a hundred species distributed across sub-Saharan Africa, particularly the Cape Floristic Region, as well as Madagascar and Asia, this genus consists of terrestrial orchids with underground tubers renewed annually. Their non-resupinate flowers bear a hooded lip extended into two spurs, a feature unique among orchids, and are pollinated, depending on the species, by bees, butterflies, hawkmoths, flies or sunbirds. They require well-drained soil, a position in full sun to light shade, and a dry dormant rest period.
