Tigridia duranganese

Described in 1968 from plants collected near La Ciudad and El Salto in the state of Durango, Mexico, Tigridia durangense (the correct spelling of 'duranganese') is a summer-growing cormous geophyte found on the grassy highland plains (llanos) of the region. Like other species of the genus, it produces ephemeral flowers lasting only a single day, with three large spreading tepals about 40 mm across, marked with the contrasting spots typical of Tigridia. It requires well-drained soil, full sun, and a climate with a dry winter, proving difficult to grow in warm, humid conditions.
