Tecophilaea odoratum

The name on this catalogue entry does not correspond to a recognised species of the genus Tecophilaea; the exact species remains unidentified. This small Chilean genus (Tecophilaeaceae) comprises two species: T. cyanocrocus, from stony slopes of the Cordillera near Santiago at around 3000 m, and T. violiflora, at lower elevations in the coastal ranges. Both are dwarf cormous plants with narrow basal leaves, producing one or two funnel-shaped flowers in spring, an intense cobalt-blue with a white throat in T. cyanocrocus. Cultivation requires well-drained soil, full sun, and a dry summer dormancy.
