Geissorhiza roseo alba

Native to South Africa, where it grows on sandstone soils, on dry rocky fynbos slopes from the Little Karoo to the Eastern Cape, Geissorhiza roseoalba belongs to a genus of corms with hard, overlapping tunics typical of Cape Iridaceae. Its narrow, sword-shaped leaves, with a thickened midrib and margins, accompany a stem 15 to 35 cm tall. In August-September, often after fire, it bears one to three large pale pink flowers suffused with deeper pink, marked with reddish-purple at the base of the tepals and pink on the reverse. It requires well-drained soil, full sun, and dry summer dormancy.
