Crocus ex corsicus vE

Endemic to Corsica and Sardinia, Crocus corsicus grows in rocky ground and grassland up to 2300 m. This cormous species, 8 to 10 cm tall, produces a teardrop-shaped corm with finely netted, fibrous tunics. Between January and April it bears one to two fragrant flowers, bright lilac-pink inside and paler with dark purple feathering on the outside of the tepals, with a bright orange-red style. This stock, raised from seed (ex) of Crocus corsicus, retains the characters of the type species. It requires well-drained soil, full sun, and a dry summer dormancy, as do most Mediterranean crocuses.
