Nemastylus

Nemastylis is a genus of bulbous plants in the family Iridaceae, native to the New World, distributed from the south-central United States through Mexico and Central America to Guatemala. The genus comprises a handful of species, growing from a deeply buried bulb that produces a stem up to 30 cm tall, clasped by 1 to 4 narrow, pleated leaves. The star-shaped, six-tepalled blue-violet flowers are short-lived, opening in late morning and closing by mid-afternoon. In cultivation these bulbs require well-drained soil and full sun, with dry dormancy after the foliage dies down. The exact species has not been identified.
