Tritonia BB sp 1

This plant, whose precise species has not been identified, belongs to the genus Tritonia (Iridaceae), around 27 species native to southern Africa, mostly in the winter-rainfall regions of the Western Cape, with a few species from summer-rainfall areas. The small, almost spherical corm is wrapped in fibrous tunics, sometimes with a papery neck, from which narrow strap-shaped leaves emerge. Flowering, from spring to summer, produces spikes of funnel-shaped flowers in variable colours — yellow, orange, pink or white — sometimes fragrant at night. Labelled 'sp 1', this accession requires well-drained soil, a sunny position and dry summer dormancy.
