hom/spar/mor BB sp1

This accession groups plants from small South African Iridaceae genera — Homeria (now within Moraea), Moraea and Sparaxis — told apart with certainty only once in flower. They are cormous geophytes with fibrous to papery corm tunics and narrow, linear leaves, typical of the winter-rainfall regions of the Cape. Moraea produces ephemeral, iris-like flowers with three larger outer tepals and three smaller inner ones, often lasting only a day; Sparaxis bears star-shaped, brightly coloured flowers grouped in a spike. Labelled 'sp1', this accession has not yet been identified to genus. Grow in full sun, well-drained soil, with dry summer dormancy.
