Watsonia BB sp3 ?beatricis

This accession of the genus Watsonia (Iridaceae) is likely close to Watsonia beatricis (a synonym of W. pillansii), though the identification is not certain. Native to South Africa, this cormous perennial forms large clumps of narrow, stiff, evergreen leaves arranged in fans, topped by flowering stems up to 1.5 m tall. In midsummer, branched spikes bear twenty to thirty-five curved, tubular orange-red flowers around 5 cm long. The plant thrives in a sunny position and well-drained soil; once established it tolerates drought well, but benefits from a dry winter dormancy.
