Native to South Africa (Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga), Romulea thodei — now treated as a synonym of Romulea camerooniana — is a small cormous plant with a globose to bell-shaped corm bearing a circular to crescent-shaped basal ridge. Fine, grass-like linear leaves frame a short stem 5 to 12 cm tall. One to three funnel-shaped flowers, 1 to 2 cm across, pink to magenta with a yellow centre often edged white or blue, open early in the year. The plant thrives in well-drained soil and full sun, requiring a dry dormancy outside the growing season.
