Moraea brevistyla

Native to eastern South Africa, Lesotho and Eswatini, growing from the Mpumalanga/KwaZulu-Natal border down to the Eastern Cape, Moraea brevistyla is an iris relative with a corm about 15 mm in diameter, wrapped in fine, dark brown fibrous tunics. A single basal, linear, channelled leaf overtops a stem reaching up to 35 cm. The flowers, white flushed pale blue-lilac on the outer tepals and yellow spotted brown on the inner ones, open late in the growing season. The plant requires well-drained soil, full sun, and a dry dormancy period after flowering.
