Iris basin Villa Thuret

This entry refers to an Iris growing in the pond of the Villa Thuret botanical garden in Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes, France), a celebrated acclimatisation garden founded in 1857 by Gustave Thuret and now attached to INRAE. The exact species of this plant could not be confirmed, so the description is given at genus level. Iris is a very large genus of Iridaceae, growing from rhizomes or bulbs depending on the section, and includes numerous species from wet or aquatic habitats (pond margins, marshes, water gardens) with sword-shaped leaves and six-tepalled flowers, three reflexed outer and three erect inner, in spring.
