Lachenalia pusilla

Native to the south-western Cape of South Africa, where it grows on sand and slopes in the winter-rainfall region, Lachenalia pusilla is one of the smallest species in the genus, standing only 1 to 4 cm tall. Its four to six linear to lanceolate leaves, plain or spotted, form a rosette pressed flat to the ground, from which a short, dense raceme of small, coconut-scented white flowers emerges in autumn. It is grown in well-drained soil, in full sun, with the dry summer dormancy typical of Cape bulbs.
