Romulea campanuloides

Often sold as Romulea campanuloides, now placed under the synonym Romulea camerooniana, this cormous Iridaceae is widespread across the African highlands, from the South African Drakensberg to Kenya, Sudan, southern Ethiopia and Cameroon. It forms clumps of narrow, grass-like leaves from which flared, star-shaped, deep rosy-pink flowers emerge on 15-30 cm stems from mid to late spring. The corm is small, round and reddish-brown. It requires rich, well-drained soil, a sunny position, and good winter protection, tolerating little below about -6°C.
