Protea nerifolia

Endemic to South Africa, occurring along the southern coastal mountain ranges of the Cape from east of Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, from sea level to 1300 m, Protea neriifolia (sometimes misspelled "nerifolia") is an evergreen shrub with tough, elongated, oleander-like leaves, hence its epithet. Its large flowerheads range from creamy green and silvery pink to deep carmine, edged with a "beard" of purple-black to white hairs depending on the population. Flowering spans February to November depending on region. It needs acidic, gritty, well-drained soil and a sunny position, and tolerates drought well once established.
