Nothoscordum gracile / fragrans

Nothoscordum gracile, long known as N. fragrans, is a bulbous Amaryllidaceae of American origin, related to Allium but lacking their onion smell when crushed. The ovoid bulb, about 1.5 cm across, produces numerous bulblets, allowing rapid multiplication. Its 2 to 9 linear, basally sheathing leaves accompany one or two 30–60 cm scapes bearing an umbel of fragrant flowers, white with a pink midvein and greenish base. Flowering extends from spring into summer. Naturalised in many temperate and subtropical regions, it is grown in ordinary, well-drained soil in a sunny position.
