Leucocoryne ixioides rose très pale

Native to Chile, where it was first introduced into cultivation in 1826, Leucocoryne ixioides is the most widespread and easiest species of the genus to grow. It produces a tunicated bulb and narrow, grass-like, garlic-scented foliage that has usually withered by flowering time. The scapes, about 35 cm tall, bear umbels of delicately scented, star-shaped flowers, typically white with lilac-tipped petals; this accession shows a very pale pink-flowered form, an uncommon colour variant within the species. It flowers in spring. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil, with an essential dry summer dormancy.
