Lilium nepalense

Native to the Himalaya (Nepal, north-east India, south-west China), Lilium nepalense is a stoloniferous bulbous geophyte of the family Liliaceae, spreading underground from one season to the next. The stem, 90 to 150 cm tall, bears in summer one to three (occasionally more) large, downward-facing trumpet flowers, lime-green to yellow-green, with a highly characteristic deep purple to maroon throat. The strong evening fragrance attracts hawkmoth pollinators. It requires cool, humus-rich, acidic, well-drained soil, a sheltered, partly shaded position, in a climate resembling open montane woodland.
