Rauhia

Rauhia is a small genus of bulbous geophytes of the family Amaryllidaceae, endemic to the dry inter-Andean valleys of northern Peru (the Marañón and Utcubamba valleys), growing in open woodland and on rocky slopes between 1000 and 1500 m elevation. Named in honour of the German botanist Werner Rauh, the genus comprises species with large bulbs producing 1 to 4 petiolate, ovate, fleshy leaves, sometimes silver-mottled when young. The flowers, green to off-white, are borne in an umbel. Adapted to a climate with a pronounced dry season, it requires well-drained soil and a dry, unwatered dormancy.
