Lycoris longituba

Native to eastern China (Jiangsu and Anhui provinces), Lycoris longituba, the white spider lily, is a bulbous geophyte of the family Amaryllidaceae, growing naturally on moist wooded slopes. Foliage appears in early spring and dies back before flowering, which takes place from late August to early September: sturdy stems, nearly a metre tall, then bear large, regular, lily-shaped flowers with a characteristic elongated floral tube. The species shows exceptional colour variability for the genus, ranging from pure white to yellow, pink, and intermediate shades. It requires rich, well-drained soil, a sunny to partly shaded position, and summer dormancy.
