Lycoris straminea

Lycoris straminea is a species (or hybrid complex) in the Amaryllidaceae, its name referring to the straw-yellow colour of its flowers. The underground bulb stays hidden until late summer, when a leafless stem suddenly rises bearing an umbel of trumpet-shaped, pale yellow to cream flowers with the curled petals typical of 'spider lilies'. The foliage, green with a pale midrib, appears only in autumn after flowering and persists through the following spring. It is grown in full sun to part shade, in well-drained soil, with regular watering during active growth.
