Rhodophiala elwesii

Native to the Argentine and Chilean Andes, Rhodophiala elwesii (now sometimes placed within the genus Zephyranthes) is a bulbous plant in the Amaryllidaceae. A stem some 30 cm tall bears an umbel of three to four soft-yellow, funnel-shaped flowers marked at the base with a characteristic crimson-brown blotch. Coming from the Andean highlands, it appreciates cool conditions year-round and flowers in spring and summer. It is grown in a sunny to bright position, in well-drained soil, with steady watering during growth and dry dormancy outside the season.
