Endemic to the northwestern Cape of South Africa, where it grows on rocky sandstone slopes, Gladiolus watermeyeri is a small cormous plant in the Iridaceae, reaching 10–30 cm. The strongly fragrant flowers have white upper tepals veined with red and yellow lower tepals. Flowering occurs in winter and early southern spring. It is grown in full sun, in gritty, well-drained soil, with limited watering, and tolerates drought well once established.
