Gladiolus rogersii

Widespread in southern South Africa, on sandstone and limestone slopes from Pearly Beach to Humansdorp, Gladiolus rogersii is a cormous geophyte with fibrous to woody tunics. A 30–60 cm stem, with linear to terete leaves, bears fragrant, bell-shaped, bilabiate flowers in blue to purple, marked with yellow or white on the lower tepals. Flowering occurs mainly in spring, with autumn to early-winter populations in the foothills of the Little Karoo. It requires a sunny position, well-drained soil, and dry summer dormancy after flowering.
