Narcissus gaditanus

Endemic to the south-western Iberian Peninsula, from southern Portugal to southern Spain (the Cádiz region), Narcissus gaditanus belongs to section Juncifolii, the rush-leaved daffodils. Its bulb produces fine, rigid, rush-like foliage and a stem bearing small, fragrant yellow flowers in winter to spring. A narrow-range species threatened by coastal urbanisation and tourism development, it is listed as vulnerable on Spain's red list. It requires a sunny position, well-drained sandy soil, and dry summer dormancy typical of Mediterranean geophytes.
