Protea obtusifolia SH

Endemic to the southern Cape coast (South Africa), from Stanford to Cape Agulhas and as far as the mouth of the Gouritz River, Protea obtusifolia, the limestone sugarbush, is a vigorous, rounded shrub exceeding 2 m, with leathery, obovate leaves. Its large flowerheads, with pink bracts, open almost year-round, peaking in winter. Long-lived, the plant can remain ornamental for over twenty years. It requires full sun, well-drained soil, preferably limestone-derived, and tolerates drought well once established.
