Globba bulbifera

Native to the tropical forest understorey of Southeast Asia, Globba bulbifera is a small rhizomatous Zingiberaceae with a herbaceous habit, growing beneath the forest canopy. A distinctive trait of the genus, it sets little seed and instead multiplies chiefly by fleshy bulbils that replace flowers at the base of the drooping inflorescence. The yellow flowers, with the anther appendage characteristic of the genus, open in summer. It requires shade to part shade, constantly moist humus-rich soil, humid air, and dies back into winter dormancy outside truly tropical climates.
