Hedychium ellipictium

Hedychium ellipticum (sometimes misspelled ellipictium) is a rhizomatous plant native to the eastern Himalayas (Nepal), valued for its ornamental foliage and the clove-like fragrance of its flowers. At maturity it forms a clump 70-90 cm wide, with leafy stems exceeding 1 m in height, bearing broad, lanceolate, dark green leaves 30-40 cm long, with stems and sheaths tinged red-green. In late summer or autumn it produces rounded, white, spider-like inflorescences with long orange stamens. Fairly hardy, it withstands -10°C in dry winter soil but needs regular watering during the growing season.
